What is Bamboo Salt?

Bamboo salt is a precious sea salt that has been traditionally handcrafted in Korea by Buddhist monks for over 1000 years. The sea salt is filled into bamboo tubes, sealed with clay, and fired multiple times in a kiln. Each firing process removes impurities and simultaneously increases the mineral content. The twice-fired bamboo salt has a less intense flavor than the nine-times-fired version. It tastes spicy and slightly sulfuric. Over time, one gets used to the special taste and can even discern a slight sweetness.
