What is propolis?

Propolis is the protective resin of honey bees. Since high temperatures and relatively high humidity prevail in a hive, with up to 60,000 bees, germs have an easy time. For this reason, an antibacterial protective complex prevents the proliferation of germs: propolis. This is applied by the bees as a thin protective layer at the entrance and throughout the hive. It renders intruders harmless and thus ensures the survival of the entire colony.

How is propolis produced?

In a hive, each bee has a specific task: Only select worker bees collect propolis resin from selected twigs and buds of various deciduous trees. The collected mass is then enzymatically processed by the bees and enriched with pollen and wax.

Beecraft's propolis is harvested with exceptional care by experienced beekeepers. Only the natural behavior of the bees in the hive and a healthy colony ensure the high quality of the propolis.

With this combination of experience and species-appropriate beekeeping, it is possible to harvest up to 100 grams of propolis per year from one beehive.
