Charcoal soaked in styrax balsam is used. The vanillin it contains gives the fragrance a pleasant, sweet, exotic, and soft note.
Styrax grows in Syria and Greece and, in ancient times, was a cult symbol of the dark goddess Hecate, mistress of all witches and sorceresses, goddess of magical and poisonous plants. Hecate is reminiscent of the Hindu goddess Kali. Styrax promotes self-confidence, helps relieve mental and emotional tension, and has a calming and relaxing effect.
