Chyavanprash is a traditional Ayurvedic fruit puree surrounded by numerous legends. It is one of the most famous Ayurvedic recipes and was recorded over 2,000 years ago in the Charaka Samhita, a widely read Ayurvedic classic.
An essential ingredient of Chyavanprash is amla (Latin: Emblica officinalis, German: Indian gooseberry), which is revered as a sacred fruit in India. Amla is the Ayurvedic superfood said to have a balancing effect on all three doshas.
Recommended intake:
One teaspoonful of 8 g twice daily (equivalent to 16 g daily). This daily intake contains 3.6 g of amla and 243 mg of polyphenols. Do not exceed the recommended daily intake. Food supplements are not a substitute for a balanced, varied diet and a healthy lifestyle.
Triphala, also known as the three fruits, is considered the most important nutritional supplement and the most important rasayana in Ayurveda. It consists of equal parts of the three fruits amla (Indian gooseberry), haritaki (pine myrobalan), and bibhitaki (green myrobalan). Amla primarily calms Pitta, haritaki primarily harmonizes Vata, and bibhitaki primarily pacifies Kapha. The combination of the three fruits balances all doshas.
