In Ayurveda, Ashvagandha, also known as winter cherry or sleepberry, is one of the most commonly used dietary supplements. Ashvagandha translates as “the smell of the horse”, as in Indian tradition the plant is attributed with the vitality and strength of the horse (not scientifically proven). Ashvagandha root reduces the doshas Vata and Kapha.

Triphala, also called three-fruit, is considered the most important nutritional supplement and the most important Rasayana in Ayurveda. It consists of equal parts of the three fruits Amla (Indian gooseberry), Haritaki (panicle myrobalan) and Bibhitaki (green Belerian myrobalan). Amla primarily calms Pitta, Haritaki primarily harmonizes Vata and Bibhitaki primarily calms Kapha. The combination of the three fruits balances all doshas.
